Is this only for families?
No, anyone can form a team of 3 with members from different generations - a child (16 and below), an adult (25 to 55 years old) and a senior (above 60). For family members, the age criteria does not apply; they just need to be of different generations.
There needs to be an adult in the team to be responsible for the iPads to be loaned out.
If you need help with forming your team, please contact us and we can try to "matchmake". Tell us which team member is missing.
If a team member is less mobile, he/she can be somewhere in Toa Payoh to have a page created with their photos and voice. We think that at least 2 members are needed to move around to the different spots to get the ebook done.
Can other family members and friends be part of the book?
Yes, they can be part of the photos or the sound clips. However, each page must feature a different member of the team - minimally, it must be that member's memory of the spot featured and they are part of the photo.
Must we be tech-savvy?
An iPad will be on loan to each team to use for this event, and you do not need to be tech-savvy. There will be a comprehensive guide for using the iPad and the Pages template provided. An optional tech briefing will also be held on a weeknight before the event.
Do we need to pay?
No, it is a free event. We are grateful for our community supporters. However, registration is required.
Who is responsible for the iPad?
We trust that all teams will take the best care of the iPad on loan to them. We will be recording the particulars of the adult member as our point of contact.
Can we use our own device?
For consistency, especially as we will be consolidating all ebooks, we would like all teams to use the iPad issued and the Pages template provided.
How can teams be creative?
Teams are encouraged to consider ideas such as dressing similarly, bringing props and old photos so that their photos are visually interesting. For the sound clips, they can consider singing, re-creating special sound effects associated with the place or conduct a brief interview.
What if we cannot complete the ebook in time?
There will be a Helpdesk to address any problems that teams might face during the event. Let us work together to create that special and memorable ebook for your team.
Where in Toa Payoh can we go?
You can go anyway within Toa Payoh to take your photo for this ebook. The three spots could also be near each other, say, at Toa Payoh Central. A variety of shots and it is your story about that spot that makes all the difference.
What happens to the ebooks after the event?
All ebooks will be available online here for a year from 28 Jul onward. Each team member will also get a hardcopy as a souvenir. Additional sets will be printed and shared via rotation among community organisations such as preschools, schools, senior activity centre and so on.
